You’ve probably heard us say this before, but we love records, turntables, pretty much anything vinyl related. However one thing we don’t love is the runoff groove of a record. Once the stylus hits it, not only is the album you were enjoying over, but if left running you can actually reduce the lifespan of your precious cartridge as the stylus wears down. Sadly no matter how careful you are, the tonearm doesn’t always get lifted off once the record is over (ever fall asleep listening to your turntable?. . .) but now you needn’t be ever vigilant, with the help of your Little Fwend from Oslo.
Sitting on your turntable’s plinth between the platter and tonearm, the Little Fwend waits to intercept and gently lift the cartridge away from the record once the last track has played. Available in two versions, High (49 – 82mm) and Low (32 – 49mm), which are both user adjustable, the Fwend will buddy up with most decks, and lift any cartridge with a VTF of less than 5g. The list of compatible turntables can be found here, and includes the SME 20/12 and 30/12, the VPI Prime, HR-X and Scout, and the Rega P1, P3, RP6 and RP10, along with many others. Thanks to the mounting platform, you can even use it with your next turntable when you decide to upgrade.
Priced at £180, this won’t improve the sound of your system, but it will look after you and your record collection. What more can you ask of your Little Fwend?
