In 1960, Charles Mingus recorded a session that falls between his late-1959 work for Columbia Records and his piano-less quartet that made the classic Mingus at Antibes.
This session features his pre-1940s material and other works from the pre-bop era, ostensibly before he heard Charlie Parker.
Two of the best-played works from Ellington’s pen, “Take the ‘A’ Train” and “Do Nothin’ Till You Hear from Me,” are included in the session.
