2019 Vinyl Lover Buyer Guide

3rd December 2019

‘Tis the season, so why not get the vinyl junkie in your life a bit of an upgrade. You don’t need to spend a lot, to get a lot. Turntable accessories make fantastic stocking filler, that will surely spark a smile on Christmas day. Also keep in mind the dozens of records we have in the shop for sale!

Have you been putting off cleaning your records, if so, give yourself a Christmas project to burn off your Christmas dinner!

AudioQuest Anti-Static Record Brush – £17.95:

Simple but effective. This style of brush is designed to be used every time you play a record, and while it certainly doesn’t offer a deep clean, it will stop your records from getting dirtier, and can increase the lifespan of your stylus. It is especially effective if your records have been cleaned with one of the more substantial cleaning products listed below.

Simply Analog Delux Vinyl Cleaning Boxset – £50:

Lots of kit, in a swanky case. This little cleaning kit includes a goat hair brush, velvet brush, liquid stylus cleaner, vinyl cleaner, and a microfibre cloth. This is a great all-rounder beginners kit for someone who is starting to take their collection more seriously.

Watson’s Record Cleaning Machine – £499:

This is how you bring out the big guns on your gunky records. You can sit back an relax while the work is done for you. There is enough cleaning solution for a few hundred records, so you’ll not be needing new solution very often.

Tonar Nostatic Record Sleeves 50 Pack – £16:

If you’re cleaning your records, you don’t want to be sticking them back into their dirty sleeve. This is a pretty self-explanatory item, and I won’t insult your intelligence with an explanation.

Ortofon 2M Red – £95:
This is the entry level moving-magnet cartridge from Ortofon, but it certainly doesn’t sound like it. This makes a lovely upgrade for an assortment of turntables, namely the Rega Planar 1 or 2.

Ortofon 2M Blue – £185:
This is like the 2M Red, but even better-er. The Blue is renowned for its bang-for-buck factor, a very musical and lively cartridge. Similarly a great upgrade for an assortment of turntables, especially the Rega Planar 3, but a 1 or a 2 certainly will benefit as well.

Dynavector 10X5 MKII – £549:
This is the perfect cartridge for someone wanting to transition from Moving Magnet to Moving Coil. The 10X5 is a high output MC cartridge, and as such can be run with a MM phono stage, meaning you won’t have to upgrade your phono stage straight away (or at all).

By no means is this the extent of our cartridge range, if you’re looking for something specific, or general advice, just ask.

Little Fwend – £180:
The Little Fwend looks like it should be on spaceship control panel from a 1950’s Sci-Fi film, but while it mightn’t shoot you into hyperspace, it will save your stylus from sitting in the inner groove all night, preventing needless degradation.
