Simply Streaming 2020

Music streaming – the singular and most seismic shift in the music industry of our lifetime.

Digital streaming has revolutionised the way we listen to music. If you haven’t already embraced it, it’s time; your CD player will not last forever. Join us for this straightforward guide to your first steps in streaming and to find out what you’re missing.

We’ve seen music streaming evolve from illegal lo-fi file-sharing websites in the late 1990’s to the multi-billion dollar industry that it is now. Not coincidentally, sales of CDs and CD players went into freefall in the early 2010’s – a trend which continues today; whereas sales of vinyl and digital streaming subscriptions are on the rise.

Our Simply Streaming… sessions are now in their fourth year and continue to take an irreverent, informed, objective and practical look at how easy it is to get into streaming, how good it can sound and how it can open your ears to just about anything that’s ever been recorded. During our 1.5 hours session we’ll take a detailed look and listen to…

  • How a conventional CD sounds through a really good music system.
  • How much better that exact same CD sounds when losslessly ripped and streamed through the same system.
  • How that same recording should have sounded, when streamed at “Studio Master” quality.
  • How to access radio stations from all around the world.
  • The strengths and weaknesses of the “big names” in music streaming – Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal, Qobuz, et al.
  • A simplified guide to industry terminology.
  • How to add music streaming – simply and cost effectively – to your existing hi-fi system, or how to replace an elderly system with something more commensurate.
  • How to take your music library or streaming service out of the house and on holiday, in the car, on the commute etc…
  • Q&A
